My Sketchbook Progress

I have been working hard on my current assignment for the SBA.  The subject of this one is to study wild flowers and berries from a defined local area and then create studies of them in my sketchbook and finally create a painting of at least five different species.

Here are some of the pages out of my sketchbook.  Currently I am just starting the good copy painting.... lots to do yet!

  3. Laura, not only are the sketches lovely but I love that the assignment had you identifying wild flowers and berries. I have been dabbling in natural dying and so I'm having to learn how to identify plants since there are some that you can't use because they are toxic. And just being able to identify them to know what color they produce. So it sounds like it was both fun sketching for you and also a learning lesson of the local plants. Now I'm starting to wish they had a botany class in high school/college.

    1. Hey Aubrey

Wow that sounds cool too. Yes I have been into plants since I have very young. I used to make a "paint" mixture out of Oregon Grape berries and flour when I was a kid and paint designs on rocks. My Grandma was an Archaeologist and my family has always had a passion for nature so I have been doing plant ID for as long as I can remember. However living farther north now I have definitely learned some new ones!
